After a major iPhone or Android update, spend a few minutes checking the settings that affect security and everyday reliability. Start with backups, app updates, storage space and privacy permissions.

Then review notification settings, banking and authentication apps, Bluetooth and wearable connections, mobile data behaviour and battery usage. Some temporary warmth or higher battery consumption can occur while the phone completes background work after a large update.
